Activities

Hautbois has an excellent range of on-site activities which can provide an action-packed stay with no additional transport costs !

Abseiling
We have a purpose-built abseil tower with 2 descents, the highest of which is 10 metres. Our harness sizes cover from 5 years upwards. We offer both wall abseiling and free abseiling. Instructors must have the current Norfolk LEA Abseiling Award or higher or Guide Association Climbing and Abseiling Qualification Level 1 or above endorsed for Hautbois.

Aerial Runway
Our 150 metre wire will send you whizzing through the trees at high speed, attached to a safety harness, from the platform of a specially erected tower. All sessions are led by a Hautbois instructor but groups must provide an adult to help with every session.

Climbing Wall
Our pre-cast climbing wall offers a good introduction for beginners as well as a challenge for those who are more experienced. 5 year olds and upwards can use the wall.
Instructors must have the current Norfolk LEA Climbing Award or higher or Guide Association Climbing and Abseiling Qualification Level 1 or above endorsed for this wall.

Archery
Our outdoor range provides a number of distances from which to shoot enabling both introduction and more advanced classes to be taught.Instructors must have a current GNAS Leaders Certificate or higher.

Open Canoeing
We have 3 open canoes which can take one group of 8 people with an instructor. Located on the River Bure we have direct access to the water and sessions can be just a 1½ hour introduction or an all day paddle up the river and back.
Instructors must have a valid BCU Canoe or Kayak Level 1 coach Award or higher.

Kayaking
Two groups of 8 can be run at the same time in our closed cockpit kayaks which operate on our private cut (dyke giving access to the main river) and the River Bure. The sessions are fun with lots of games to play and provide a safe introduction to the sport.
Instructors must have a valid BCU Kayak Level 1 coach Award or higher.

Boulder Climbing
We have a purpose built climbing boulder available for use by groups. This is hired out for own instructor sessions, with guidelines for safety. Although not on the same scale as our climbing wall it can provide quite a stiff challenge.

Rafting
Equipment for raft building is available. This consists of poles, ropes and barrels, and sessions can be booked with or without Hautbois instructors. There are enough components for the construction of two rafts so groups can book both and challenge each other! Safety equipment is provided, and must be worn once on the water. No formal qualifications are required, but a basic knowledge of first aid and water safety are needed.

Orienteering/Trail Finding?
We have several trails around the estate to challenge your skills - be they problem solving, map reading or simply finding and identifying trees. No qualifications are needed for these, but participants must be careful of natural hazards on the site.
